About us

Wessex Equine was established in 2011 in order to meet the need for a high level, first opinion veterinary practice to cover the Wiltshire, South Gloucestershire and Avon area.

Below is a summary of what Wessex Equine provides:

Experienced vets

Team of 6 equine vets, 4 of whom are directors. Our vets are all experienced equine practitioners, who deal only with horses. We cover all aspects of equine practice, but have specific areas of expertise in lameness and stud medicine. We have expanded rapidly and now provide care for thousands of horses across our area – ranging from international competition horses and black type broodmares, to hackers and children’s ponies.

Fully mobile service

Mobile veterinary practice, bringing quality care and the latest mobile equipment to your horse. We have invested heavily in the latest portable diagnostic equipment: Wireless digital xray, ultrasound, video endoscopy, video gastroscopy, shockwave, and diode laser. We aim to bring a high quality of service direct to your yard.

Fed up of rarely seeing the same vet twice? With 6 vets, 4 of whom are directors, we can provide excellent continuity of care as well as 24/7 cover, 365 days a year.

Emergency cover 24/7

Unlike some practices, if you call Wessex Equine, you will see a Wessex Equine vet, 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. We do not share our out of hours work with any other practices.

Competitive prices

Our fully mobile service, means our overheads are kept to a minimum. No expensive hospital or town centre practice to maintain. We can pass these savings on to you the client, meaning our prices are highly competitive.

Clinical expertise

With RCVS certificate holders in both orthopaedics and stud medicine – this is recognition of our advanced veterinary practice in these specialist fields. We have a modern and evidence based approach to clinical work, combined with common sense and good horsemanship.

Our Story

Wessex Equine was founded in 2011 by Julian, Oscar and Andy. Having worked for several practices both aboard and locally, they decided to strike out on their own and setup Wessex Equine. The aim was to combine the skills they had learned in hospital based practice and use them to provide a high quality ‘ first opinion’ service to clients at their yard. The practice strives to provide the latest up to date knowledge and equipment along with common sense and a friendly service.
